About Anna Rose Barry

With a background in academic research, Anna was interested to learn more about the people and events in Art’s stories through reading other contemporary sources. Using Interlibrary Loan, Anna was able to read EVERY Custer County newspaper that had been saved on microfilm, from 1879 through the end of 1916, the year that her family moved away from Custer County. Anna was able also to access many historical books that described the early years of Rosita.

Art Jamison and Edmond Barry were cousins. Ed Barry’s daughter, Anna Rose Barry, MS, MFA, inherited Art’s manuscript. Expecting that many people would enjoy reading about Art’s early life, Anna has edited the stories, edited the photographs, and designed the page layout, with plans to publish this book.

In Colorado Memories, Anna has added information from her research as commentary in footnotes, sidebars adjacent to the stories, and appendixes. More than 275 historical black and white photos and illustrations throughout the book provide visual references to the earlier way of life that Art described in his stories. Anna inherited photographs from the Schriver and Barry families. Colorado libraries, historical societies, and family friends have made additional historical photos available for this book.

Sadly, Arthur Jamison passed away before he had completed all that he had planned to write. Anna has composed an Afterword, briefly describing some later events in the lives of Art’s relatives who had been prominent in Art’s stories.

In 2004, and again in 2006, Anna Barry won FIRST PLACE AWARDS at the Dallas Genealogical Society’s biennial writing competitions, in the category of Family Stories and Memoirs. Anna’s two entries were compilations of stories, including photographs and historical research, from Colorado Memories: Growing Up on the Frontier. Although she hasn’t been able to work on it continually, this book project has been a labor of love for Anna, spanning more than 20 years!
